Stained-Glass Windows at Caixa Federal HQ

Button

Caixa Econômica Federal, commonly known as Caixa, stands as a prominent government-owned financial institution in Brazil, holding a significant position within the country's financial system. Established in 1861, Caixa has transformed into a versatile bank offering a broad spectrum of services.

One of Brasilia's notable attractions is the remarkable collection of 24 stained-glass windows located at the national Caixa Federal headquarters in the banking sector of Asa Sul. Each of the window is dedicated to representing a specific Brazilian state, narrating the state's story encompassing life, people, culture, folklore, and economy through an array of symbols and colors. The creative work behind these windows is attributed to Lorenz Heilmar, a Brazilian artist of German descent.

These stained-glass windows are renowned for their vivid colors, and their brilliance is particularly captivating depending on the time of day and the angle of sunlight. The interplay of light creates spectacular reflections on the water in the ponds in front of some of the windows and polished floors, enhancing the overall visual experience.

Entry is free and the stained-glass windows can be viewed on Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 to 21:00.
