Healthcare in Brazil is free for every citizen and permanent resident and beside the public hospitals there are the Basic Health Units, Unidade Básica de Saúde, all over Brazil.
Most of these units have so called health teams on site which includes doctors, nurses, community heath teams and sometimes dentists as well.
These health units deal with minor emergencies like fever, toothaches, minor injuries, animal bites, cholesterol problems to name a few.
They also give assistance in suspected domestic violence, alcohol and drug problems, anxiety and depression.
These health units are also a major factor in the success of vaccination programs in Brazil.
To access one of these unites you need a photo ID, the national SUS card (Sistema Único de Saúde Card) and it is recommended, but not mandatory, that you bring proof of residency.
IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY IT IS ADVICED TO GO IMMEDIATELY TO A HOSPITAL.
